The growth of small and medium sized companies is being compromised by slow broadband speeds.
That's according to technology consultancy expert Matt Yardley, who says that access to high speed network connections is becoming vital as the adoption of increasingly complex online applications, including software-as-a-service, becomes more widespread".
Speaking at Westminster on cloud computing, Mr Yardley said "This places a natural constraint on the SME market place".
He went onto say that many businesses could struggle to access broadband speeds they require if slow internet connections aren't addressed immediately.
It comes as The Communications Management Association says that both the Conservative and Labour plans will not achieve their aims to do with universal broadband quickly or comprehensively enough to take advantage of the potential opportunity for growth provided by the online economy.
