New data has revealed the .uk website domain is now the worlds second most popular, thanks to a record period of registrations.
The Domain Name Industry report from Nominet found the .uk domain only ranks behind China's .cn domain – with as many as 200,000 new domains being registered each month over the last year.
Nominet says the 11.5 per cent growth means there are nearly nine million domains now using the .uk suffix on their website.
Director of marketing and communications at Nominet, Phil Kingsland said he thought there was one main reason people who
create a website, were choosing the .uk domain.
He said: "Trust and confidence in the .uk domain namespace is important for UK consumers and businesses alike."
