The Vice-Chancellor of the Open University has said that the UK potentially risks a serious digital divide based on lack of ability, rather than a lack of IT access.
According to the website Kable.co.uk Martin Bean said that people were now being left behind simply because they do not understand how to use and apply technology.
The Vice-Chancellor claimed that the issue led directly to the need to educate people for new types of work and the need for workplace learning to become integral to every business.
He also said that another major challenge was to transform the vast amounts of information now available into meaningful knowledge.
