A new independent certification scheme for green electricity tariffs for businesses and homes has launched in the UK.
Only tariffs that meet energy regulator Ofgem's Green Supply Guidelines will be awarded a 'Green Energy Certified' label.
To be accredited the guidelines stipulate that the suppliers of accredited green tariffs must go above and beyond what the Government already requires in terms of sourcing more renewable energy and reductions in emissions.
Sarah Harrison from Ofgem says that the new label will give consumers peace of mind that when they sign up to a green tariff it will bring additional environmental benefits.
