US technology firm Akamai claim their service, known as Edge Tokenization, will mean online vendors will no longer have to acknowledge the credit card details at any point during a purchase.
Although the idea of tokenization has been seen before, Akamai claim their technology is different.
This is because their software invention converts the credit card data into a token - before it comes into contact with the retailer’s IT systems.
